Netflix and streaming video services have changed the way many view movies and TV shows. They now watch when and where they want; not when a TV company decides they can watch.
Spotify has done similar things to music, with a vast catalog of artists and anytime, anywhere streaming.
Many other industries are similar.
Education needs to move this way, and some organizations already have. The others need to follow, and will have little choice in the future. The group I have dubbed the 'Netflix Generation' will simply expect it. Anywhere, anytime learning...when I decide to learn...will be the norm.
This doesn't mean that the classroom and the educator will disappear. It is not an 'either / or', or mutually exclusive situation. Excellent educators will still be in demand and will remain vital to student success. However, roles will change.
